Our First Family Trip to Michigan

Our First Family Trip to Michigan

I work for the Government and had a training in Michigan. My family and I enjoy RVing any chance we get. I myself grow very tired of staying in hotels. I long for my bed away from my home every time I pull back those unwashed bed spreads, and thank god I don't have a blue light with me for curious inspections. I decided to pull my new 5th Wheel and bring my family in tow with me to my training destination. We have been RVers for many years, and didn't feel that this would be different than any other trip. Well all was well, except for the fan on my AC that a dirt dobber did a number on required my first repair. Then my water pump didn't pick up my fresh water holding tank. After a mad rush to fix all of these problems we are on our way. All is good until we cross over into Michigan and I notice I am leaving a trail a rubber behind me on my driver side of my camper. Keep in mind I just purchased my new 5th Wheel in February of this year. Well, a call to AAA and an hour and a half beside the road, we were finally on our way. We were only 18 miles from our first stop of the trip. Oh yes my 9 year old has a way with words, and stated he felt death in his bones as we set beside the interstate as the semis rocked our rig as they rocketed by.
Day Two
We called all around to replace our spare tire, and to my surprise, finding a 16inch trailer tire isn't as easy as it seems. Finally I found someone who has two on the rim for a great price. We decided to leave the trailer behind at the campsite and drive over with the truck to pick up the tires. We would later find out that this was a very wise decision. As we arrived at our destination with our trusty TomTom, whom I call Lolla (my wife doesn't mind) we were happy to find two tires as described on the phone. After the purchase, the vendor even gave us 4 quarts of strawberries. Very nice people!! We then found a pizza place that was very unique and was the best pizza I have ever eaten. We return to our camp and mounted the spare as we ready our departure for the next morning.
Day Three
We are off to our destination and within our first 20 miles we here a very loud bang. Now a blow out on the passenger side of the camper. Now a replay of day one, except the kids think this is a normal way to travel with this new trailer. Again a call to AAA, another hour and a half and we are on our way again, except this time directly to a tire store that during my time waiting for the tow service I secured five new tires at the low low price of $1080.00. We drove the minimum speed to our destination, spending more time looking back than forward. After replacing all the obviously defective tires, we are now ready to start our trip, and leave the adventures behind. I am glad to say that the rest of the trip was wonderful. There is nothing like having an RV to combine work and not have to leave your family behind every time you have a meeting. We enjoyed ourselves so much I took a weeks vacation to extend our stay. Now that I am back, I hope I see some of that money back for the new tires. I would hate to think I would pay for them twice in such a short time.

Sounds like something that happened to us. Trailer came with substandard tires and after the second tire went (we at least were lucky enough that both of them didn't go out on the same trip), we decided to replace all the tires with good ones. The next trailer we bought we specified that we wanted a different brand of tire. Unfortunately, we were never reimbursed for the tires, but learned that we have to ask what brand the trailer comes with. Hope all your future travels have no more problems.

I hope the rv dealership where you purchased your RV refunded you the price of those tires. That is horrible.
