Little Hands/Big Problems
We camp at many different campgrounds and, due to various circumstances, we often put the awning support arms down in a vertical position instead at an angle to the side of the RV.
Having grandchildren, we have noticed that the awning handles are quite accessible to little hands.
I devised a quick-and-safe way to make sure that a passing child doesn’t pull the handle by mistake ? which could cause the awning to fall and, much worse, injure the child.
I used a ?-inch thick x 1 ½ -inch wide x 3-inch long flat piece of aluminum stock with various holes drilled in it. I generally attached it to the awning arm with a stainless-steel wing nut and bolt.
Aligning the closet hole on the awning arm with one in this piece of aluminum places the aluminum block close to the upper, outer part of the awning arm, making the whole assembly safer. This is because the inner and outer arms are prevented from collapsing when the handle is accidentally pulled.
