Visiting in the summertime? Reserve your spot early at a Shreveport RV park during Memorial Day weekend so you can experience the granddaddy of all crawfish boils – the Mudbug Madness Festival. In 1984 a group of loyal North Louisianans, tired of being called “Texans” decided to pay homage to their Louisiana roots and organized this Cajun festival, which is now a four-day festival recognized as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s “Top 20 Events.”
Other notable summer events you’ll find at Shreveport parks are the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, celebrating this popular Mexican holiday; Artbreak, the largest children’s festival in the state; Let the Good Times Roll Festival, celebrating African-American culture; and Riverblast, a Fourth of July celebration with fireworks, food, music and fun.
Pack up for a Shreveport camping adventure in the fall and experience some of the best local and national musicians at the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival held each November. Six non-stop hours of jazz and blues greats on two stages.
Another popular fall festival held in the fall is the Red River Revel Arts Festival. Hundreds of the country's top artists, craftsmen, entertainers, and culinary masters come together each October for this annual festival of the arts.
Traveling during the holidays? Don’t miss the Holiday Trail of Lights, which begins in late November and features millions of lights stretched across two states and six cities: Marshall, Kilgore, and Jefferson, Texas, and Shreveport-Bossier City and Natchitoches, Louisiana, all within a one-hour drive of each other. All cities are connected by a short drive on interstate highways. Fireworks, live entertainment, Christmas musicals and parades are featured throughout the event.
What better place to spend Mardi Gras season than in Louisiana? Visit a Shreveport RV park in February so you can experience the Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras Parade, which features floats, live bands and more. Some four million beads, doubloons, cups and candy are tossed to visitors.
Finally, one of the oldest-running festivals in Louisiana is held each April in Shreveport. The Holiday in Dixie celebrates The Louisiana Purchase, and most importantly, a spirit of community involvement and pride.
There are other things to do in Shreveport than attend festivals. Take a trip down to the Red River and spend time at the shops on the Louisiana Boardwalk or gaming at the casinos. Plan your Shreveport camping trip accordingly and you’ll enjoy everything Shreveport has to offer any time of year.
