Grand Canyon, Arizona

Nearly 5 million people annually visit the Grand Canyon, located in Grand Canyon National Park.

Most visitors see this natural wonder from overlooks along the South Rim of the canyon at Grand Canyon Village, Hermits Rest or Desert View. Heavy snows often close the road to the North Rim from late October to mid-May of each year.

The Inner Canyon

The Inner Canyon includes everything below the rim. There are many opportunities to backpack, ride a mule to Phantom Ranch, or take a river trip through the canyon on the Colorado River (which can take anywhere from several days to three weeks).

How Do You Get Across the Canyon?

The South Kaibab Trail crosses the Colorado River on a narrow footbridge 70
